Two pieces, about fifteen minutes.

The iPhone app is where you study — out loud, screen locked. The Chrome extension is what feeds it, by catching the questions you miss in UWorld or AMBOSS while the explanation is still on screen. Set up the app first; the extension needs an account to sign into.

You need an invite. The beta is closed and there is no self-serve signup — Philip makes the account and sends you a password.

1 · The iPhone app

  1. Accept the App Store Connect invite first

You will get an email from Apple asking you to join a team. Accept it before anything else. The TestFlight invite does not arrive until you have, and there is nothing on your end to show it is waiting — this is the step that silently strands people.

  2. Install TestFlight, then PMPR

Install Apple’s TestFlight app from the App Store. Open the second email’s invitation link on your phone, and PMPR installs through TestFlight like a normal app.

  3. Sign in and let it sync

Use the email and password Philip sent you. The first sync pulls your cards down; leave it on that screen until it finishes.

  4. Download the voice models

Train → On-device voice → Download. It is a 173 MB one-time download and it is worth doing on day one: the app speaks on every single answer, and doing that on the phone rather than in the cloud is both faster to the first word and roughly a threefold cut in what a card costs you. Until it finishes, the app quietly uses the cloud voice instead.

2 · The capture extension

It runs on UWorld and AMBOSS question pages, and nowhere else. Philip sends you a zip file — Chrome loads it from a folder rather than from the Web Store, so put that folder somewhere you will not delete.

  1. Unzip it somewhere permanent

Documents/pmpr-capture/ is a good spot. Chrome reads the extension out of this folder every time it starts, so moving or deleting it uninstalls the extension.

  2. Load it into Chrome

Go to chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode (top right), then click Load unpacked (top left) and choose the folder you just unzipped.

  3. Pin it and sign in

Click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome’s toolbar and pin PMPR Capture. Then click the PMPR icon and sign in with the same account as the phone.

Chrome will warn you about developer-mode extensions every time it launches. That is normal for anything installed from a folder rather than the Web Store — dismiss it.

3 · Your first block

Capturing is automatic and costs nothing. Making cards is one button you press on purpose. Review a whole block without pressing it and you will have captures but no cards — this is the single most common surprise.

  1. Review your block as you normally would

A small PMPR panel sits in the corner of each question page once the answer is revealed. Rate the question Easy / Unsure / Hard. Anything you got wrong is captured on its own, with no tap needed.

  2. Say why it got you

On a miss — or anything you marked Unsure or Hard — a note box appears. Hit Talk it through and say it out loud, or type it. This is the part that matters: PMPR builds the card around the confusion you describe, not around the question.

  3. Press Make cards

Click the PMPR icon, tick which marks you want, and press Make cards. It tells you how many cards and roughly how many credits before you commit.

  4. Open the app

Your new cards are in the next session. The app syncs when you open it and when you switch back to it.

What leaves your browser

When you are signed in, the extension uploads the following into your own private PMPR account:

That content is private to your account and cannot be shared. It is held out of every export, the images sit in a bucket only your account can read, and sharing a deck with someone does not carry any of it across. If you would rather none of it uploaded, say so — the extension still works signed out; you just do not get cards. Nothing is written to your computer.

Studying without the phone

Signing in here gives you the same cards and the same schedule, typed instead of spoken. It is the right tool for a laptop session or for browsing what you have; the phone is still where the spoken loop lives, and the spoken loop is the point.

If something looks wrong

  1. pmpr.ai will not load at the hospital

The Yale hospital network blocks it. Turn wifi off and use cellular, or ask Philip for the backup address, which is the same site on a different domain.

  2. No TestFlight email

Check you accepted the App Store Connect invite first — see step 1. That is nearly always the cause.

  3. The panel is missing on a question

It only appears on UWorld and AMBOSS question pages, while you are reviewing, after the answer is revealed. Reload the page. If you just updated the extension, reload any open qbank tab.

  4. No new cards after a block

Check you pressed Make cards in the extension popup. Then open the app, which syncs on launch.

  5. A warning about credits

Tell Philip rather than paying anything. You are on a comped grant, and running low usually means the on-device voice models never finished downloading — check Train → On-device voice.
